Welcome to Gun River Dog Training
We're a dog training facility located in the heart of the Willamette Valley Flyway, just right next to the Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge and just a few minutes away from Salem, Oregon.
While we train all breeds of dogs in obedience and as companion dogs, we also train retrievers for hunting. We have trained and titled numerous retrievers for AKC hunt tests. In addition to training we are responsible Labrador Retriever Breeders, committed to breeding quality not quantity.
Our goal is to breed classic, attractive, nice working, stylish retrievers with excellent dispositions and high degrees of trainability. We want a dog that is able to stand up to the tests in the field and be a friend and livable companion at home.
“Previously, I had taken Indy other places for training needs, but this is the only place I would go back to again.”
– Jim Penhollow Vancouver, Washington
Our Dog Training Services
Whether you're a proud parent of a new puppy or a hunter needing pre-conditioning training for your canine hunting partner, we offer an assortment of services catering to the special needs of dog owners and their canine friends.
Private & Group Classes
We offer private consultations with families or individuals and their dog to correct behavioral problems. Dog classes are also available to address special needs. If you’re a new parent to a puppy, we also offer puppy parenting classes as well as our ever-popular puppy camp.
Hunting & Conditioning
Preparing your dog for the hunting season is also something that we specialize in. In addition to Hunting Retriever Workshops and our very effective Retriever Hunting School, we also offer conditioning to correct obesity problems and a pre-hunting & conditioning camp every September.
“Although we were skeptical of this prospect in the beginning, Renee gained our confidence at first meeting, and we have been amazed at the changes she has brought about in our dog.”
– Jerry and Ann Hunt
This extremely rural setting has access to over 400 acres of training grounds ranging from Agricultural to native Savannah grass. In addition, there are numerous ponds on the properties, each unique with various characteristics and challenging factors.
Gun River also has use of 15 acres of flooded corn with both pit and above ground blinds for training after the hunting season is concluded.
Meet Renée Bosarge Ivy
Renée has 28-plus years experience in training and breeding dogs. More recently, she has expanded into rehabilitating and training dogs damaged by abuse, neglect and mishandling.
She built upon an education foundation that focused on troubled children (much of which applies to “problem” dogs); added experience gained in various fields of work with dogs, and continues to develop her knowledge and skills through continuing learning.
